For the few remaining skeptics who question the utility of FE instrumentation ...
Once prolific GS member 95Metro installed a MID in his 95 Metro 1.0 5-speed roughly 7 days ago.
In that time he has passed the 60 mpg segment barrier AND the 70 segment barrier, and is predicting 80 will fall in the very near future. Best segment to date: 77+

Went driving around with my buddy today with the broken honda tranny and didn't watch the ScanGaugeII enough and was seeing 36mpg until I slowed and coasted a bit and worked it back up to 39 then left it idling with the A/C on a few times to bring it back down to 38 for the day - still not bad for a bunch of stop and go driving with the Geo battery in the trunk, 6 gallons of water on the back seat and a passenger.

94 and 95 metros should be identical.

It's a mystery! He just said he had to go. He might be back some day. There's a "goodbye" thread around here somewhere.
EDIT: but he still updates his own site regularly. We're still trying to figure out who pissed him off :)

Hey just a reminder I have a 94 4 door hatch back going away to car crusher heaven - let me know if you want anything off of it - has two good front tires with plenty of tread on them.

does it have a good head? I am looking for another 3 cyl head. I have a valve going down so I am wanting to go ahead and do a buildup on another head and swap it onto mine some weekend.

I didn't think it was possible to hypermile below the epa ratings, but you have proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt. Matt, I think some code needs to be changed for him

hahah I just noticed that. Just wait till I get the supercharger and 4.11 gears on there and I will set the record at around 5mpg :)
I guess the script isn't checking +/-

ROFL... I'm rewriting that signature thing anyway, so I'll take a look at that :P

Be a shame to pull a perfectly good engine apart with emmission test at almost zero levels but yeah the head should be good.

Metro changed between 94 and 95.
Come on Darin, admit it...this whole ScanGauge and MID business is just an MLM racket. :p

94 Obd1 95 Obd2
95's are still OBD1. At least Mark's is. OBD2 is typically on '96 models and newer.

And because you're so perceptive, I'd be foolish not to invite you to get in on the ground floor with me! Whaddya say? Think of the opportunities!
Thanks for the tidbit. I will have to go see if my OBD2 scan tool pulls codes from the 95 Parts car I have. I thought it looked like the regular OBD plug. You are probably right though. Sorry for any misleading info. (one of the reasons I don't post alot :) )

Hey, don't worry about it! If I only posted info I was expert on, I'd be pretty scarce around here myself.

Hey, how did that zip-out hatchback work for you this summer?
Alright, not what I had hoped for (material stuuck out a little-think it created more drag)...but definately kept me cooler. :) I have changed back for the winter.
By the way, you may have just saved me countless hours of work...starting a project converting totally rust free/clean 97 4cyl auto to 3cylinder 5spd and was going to use a 95 doner car that I am picking up tommorow. If it is not OBD2 I would have to also change over the oil pump (need one with sensor hole) and intake/tbi (among other items) from 96 up 3cyl. May keep looking now for 96 up low mileage 3cyl 5spd doner. Damn those emission regulations. Sorry, just an OBD2 compliant complaint :)

I bought a Scangauge about two weeks after I got my Yaris. Pre Scangauge I went from Reno to San Leandro (230 miles) and averaged about 41.5 mpg. With Scangauge the same trip was 48 mpg. Traffic was a little worse the first time I admit.
Before the Yaris I had a '94 Metro. I just wish I would have tried driving the Metro using my new FE skills taught by the Scangauge. I was getting 52 mpg in it before, maybe 60-70 mpg would have been possible.
I am a believer in the Scangauge. So far 5 people I know have bought Scangauges after seeing mine work.

I have previously come to the conclusion that because my 94 Metro is OBD-1 I can't use a scanguage, right? What can I use? Where do I buy it? How much does it cost?

Right, GeoMetry. Because you're OBD1, you'd have to use the SuperMID. I think they're around $160 US, but I'm not certain - don't hold me to that. Ask Matt or Yoshi.
