These cars are impressive. Maybe a little bit fancy compared to a civic, but the efficiency is amazing. It has a Cd of .25, has the belly pan, has 145 tires, and is made of aluminum (expensive) to save weight. but it gets around 100 MPG. Some people say it is not hard to get 110. Why don't they sell it here...it runs as clean as a TDi.
sorry this may not be a real link (I am not good w/computers), but you can copy and paste:

I really wish that it would be brought to Amerika. I could do some sick things with that if it already gets 100 mpg.

What's really great is that it is such a vindication of (European fuel blend) Diesel. I'm not a diesel fan per se, but since we're (currently, yes?) the biggest frakking car market on the planet, we ought to have the choice.

One HAS to ask why VW and Audi won't bring their three liter cars to the US........................It's a conspiracy, I tell you.

It's a conspiracy, I tell you.

Nahh , Conspiracy means -¨A joining or acting together, as if by sinister design¨

A conspiracy sounds like back room deals , but its just normal governmental policy.

NEENER, NEENER, NEENER to all Hybrid fans......... Heres' a car that doesn't use batteries or electric motors or regeneration, and still beats the Prius and Insight by 20 - 30 mpg. Simpler is better: Low mass, aerodynamic body and a low HP engine is all that it takes to get spectacular mileage.

2 notes: the Audi's MPG figures are imperial gallons (careful making comparisons); also the car was discontinued.

indeed, as MetroMPG says, the car (like the VW Lupo 3L - as in 3 litres per 100 km) was discontinued. Why was this? Because both cars cost thousands more than in normal trim. So in order to get a thriftier car, you had to shell out 4000 or 5000 Euro extra. And as all car journalists loved to point out, that didn't make sense. Also, since car journalists generally find nothing more important than cornering speed, they didn't love these skinny-wheeled specimens.
I test drove an Audi A2 1,4 once. Lovely car (provided you have the beige leather interior). But I couldn't part with my Celica as second car.

I think the mpg comparison is reasonable. It gets ~78mpUSg, which is 15mpUSg better than the Insight, and 23mpUSg better than the Prius, not counting the possible BTU correction, provided the Euro rating takes this into account, which it may not. VW already demonstrated that the 3L could average ~100mpg@53mph average speed, including stops, etc... So I would think it likely that 100mpg could be seen by the same people that see 55mpg in a Prius or 63mpg in an Insight.

That's price discrimination for you.
