So, this list will be cool, just something nice to look at and get ideas/inspiration from. But it should be kept in some sort of ordersome way so that it all makes sense just that much easier, so what I'll do it post a shell and then make another with my data to give and example, and then for your posts you can just cut and paste that first empty shell. Here we go:

Model: Civic
Year: 1989
Trim Level: LX
Transmission: 5 speed manual
EPA: 31/36
Driving Style: Very conservative. I rarely speed, and if I do it's to keep up with the crowd. I coast as much as possible.
Modifications (either preformance or gas-saving): None yet. I have a large number of modifications planned however.
Octane Fuel/Type: 87/gas
City versus Highway: 80% City/ 20% Highway
MPG: 37/41 (although I did get 46mpg on my last road trip)

Model: civic hatchback
Trim level: Si (kinda, was a dx, so no sunroof to leak)
EPA: they never drove my car
Driving Style: whatever to fit my mood. sometimes kinda throttle heavy, but a lot of times not. last winter I got better gas milege when i had it under high throttle than partial because my o2 was messed up and i was too lazy to fix it in the cold (closed loop versus open loop)
Modifications:everything that can be taken off of an '89 crx si and put onto a '90 hatch. engine, tranny, wiring, blah blah blah.
Octane Fuel: usually 87, unless i'm in iowa (because 89 is cheaper there, because of ethanol) or nebraska or something (they have 85, i wouldn't put this in the civic, but have in the rabbit)
City/Highway: i'd guess 50/50
MPG: 3X in the summer city, last winter i got upper 20's. On the highway i get over 40.

i'm doing 20km with a litre with my stock VX on highway, that is impressive

Matt Timion

That's the same as about 47 miles-per-gallon using US standards. My goal is to get between 50 and 60 after all of my modifications.

have u ever think about motorcycle?

and what is that:
Civic VX EGR Control Box

SVOboy
09-29-2005, 12:40 PM
The civic vx uses an egr system, which is the exhaust gas recycling things, and it basically reruns your exhaust through the system to lower emissions from my understanding of what it is.

The civic vx uses an egr system, which is the exhaust gas recycling things, and it basically reruns your exhaust through the system to lower emissions from my understanding of what it is.

that's exactly what it is. It is unique to the Civic VX (the control box). Some say that it actually hurts the fuel economy. if I can find other ways to lower emissions (hydrogen boost?) I might just remove the EGR assembly all together.

Either way, right now I want the car running properly, so I'm getting all of the needed components.

It's also possible that the EGR Control Box is a USA only unit, which makes me wonder if my JDM Engine needs it or not.

Flatland2D
09-29-2005, 01:50 PM
The EGR system recirculates the exhaust gas into the intake to act as a filler gas to reduce combustion. I had the vacuum line on the EGR valve on my old Buick clog up. Took forever to figure that out though. It was smoking horribly (filled up my apartment's whole parking lot with smoke when I stepped on the gas) and didn't smoke one bit after fixing the hose. Removing the system might have adverse effects, maybe it's not so bad after all.

Matt Timion
09-29-2005, 03:05 PM
Ah, so it essentially reuses the unburned gas in the exhaust? that's pretty cool.

I've been meaning to ask: How much weight do you lose due to the aluminum oil pain, or does it have some other purpose?

dfoxengr
09-30-2005, 07:44 PM
the moroso's are probably heavier than the stockers. they are only really useful in road race apps, theyre not for losing weight, but to prevent oil starvation due to them keep the oil centered under the pickup

or if youre lazy and dont want to tap your oil pan for turbo.

just a bling item that you dont need to spend money on.

About the oil pan. Fox pretty much has it right. They have an internal baffle inside that keeps all the oil from being thrown to the back under heavy acceleration. I believe some also have larger oil capacity but I haven't noticed mine needing more than 4 quarts each change. The aluminum might even transfer heat better than the stock pan. I don't know about that one, though.

I looked them up online and I saw them going for about $450. No way would I ever have spent that money myself, but it's a nice accessory to have. The previous owner did a real good job building this thing up.

Model: Intergra
Trim: gsr
Transmission: 5 speed itr/w LSD

Driving style: senior citizen on weekdays, dumb kid on weekends.
Modifications: 270 Lbs ligher than stock, Endyn head rework, itr cams, adj. cam gears, blox IM, type one headers, straight thru 2.5" exh, rc 310cc inj, underdrive pulleys, ac removed, aluminum flywheel, cold induction tube, 62mm TB, all coolant lines divorced from IM, thermal IM gasket, tuned with Crome.
Octane/ fuel: 93, will be testing and re-tuning for 89 shortly
city vs hwy: 50/50 60 stop lights a day
mpg: 35 - 35.5 with minimal throttle

Considering a switchable fuel heater and 90 psi injector pressure. Obvoiusly, by looking at the mods, you'll see I didn't really have efficiency in mind, therefore I feel there is room to grow. My goal is to clear 40mpg hwy. I may have already done it - I never drive hwy.

Ah, so it essentially reuses the unburned gas in the exhaust? that's pretty cool.

Its not really that it reuses the unburned fuel (which I'm sure it does). EGR systems are put in place to reduce NOx, which is only produced when the combustion temperatures rise above about 2500 degrees. Be introducing exhaust back into the intake, it helps to slow the combustion process, thus lower the combustion temperature. Since I have my EGR vacuum stuff mounted inside the cab, I can tell you that as soon as the car warms up, that thing is on almost 90% of the time (clicks like mad). I would bet that have the JDM version will yield greater mileage, but I hope you have the JDM ecu as well!
