I've been looking for a Civic VX for a while now and haven't found any in decent shape so I was thinking of building my own. I need something with lower miles and better fuel economy then my truck. I'm fairly mechanical but this would be my first engine swap so I wanted to get an idea of what I am getting into.

I was thinking about starting with a 94-95 (dual airbags) DX or LX (lighter then the EX) with a manual transmission, preferably something with a straight body and either high miles or a damaged engine/transmission.

Would this be a fairly straight forward drop in swap?
Has anyone done this and what kind of mileage did you get?
Will it be harder to do the swap on a 4 door then a coupe/hatch back?
Can anyone point me to a writeup on someone else's swap? I did an internet search and found a few CRX and late 80s Civic swaps but nothing from 92-95.

Thanks.

It's not too hard, I've seen a few do it. Main issue is wiring...I say go for it.

Where will you be getting the z1?

if you get an engine thats 96+ and try to put it into a 95 or below car. your gona run into some wiring issues...

The OBDII wiring isn't that bad for the hondas, but he's talking all obdI anyway.

You are in the same boat as me. I have been looking for a VX for a while with no luck.
I just got my hands on a 93 DX couple, with a blown engine, for next to nothing. I plan to swap in a VX engine and trans.

What problems will I run into with wiring?

There is a guy locally selling a complete swap that I am checking on. If that doesn't work out I will probably get one online.

Just adding the VX wiring to the stock harness. Won't be too bad, but you should keep it in mind.

Is anything different besides the O2 sensor?

O2 sensor and EGR control, that is all I can think of off hand.
