what do you guys keep your temp set at. we have a heat pump and we have ours set at 75. it is 90 out right now and it is 75 feels good. i was just wondering if 75 is to high because it seems almost to cool in here. i do have a berm home so it is insulated really well with thicker walls and earth covering the whoal north side of the house with sky lights as windows. i might post some pictures if you dont know what im talking about.

79 usually, but we haven't had it on for a while even though it gets above that outside. Stays cooler in here.

Whatever the open, or closed in the winter, doors/windows dictate. If it starts meandering into the ~103-5+ range we'll shutter up and use the AC, but it usually isn't too bad unless there's no breeze.

CA. Next to no humidity in the desert, thank heavens.

78 degrees. If it were less humid here we could leave it a little higher, I think. Or at least at night we could open the windows...

Earth berm homes are cool (literally).
You should experiment with what you (and your family) can take. Part of it is what we have been conditioned to expect. In other countries people can withstand much higher temperatures. Also, it's relative. If it is 90 outside, going to 80 indoors may be enough of a temperature change to make you feel cooler.
We don't have a temperature setting. We only have one window/wall mounted AC unit (18,000 BTU cooling) for our < 1000 sq ft house. Right now it is not on. Here is our current temp (from http://www.accuweather.com) :
Currently At 3:56PM
Sunny : 82°F
Feels Like : 87°F
Winds: South at 12mph
Humidity: 37%
Dew Point: 54° F
Pressure: 29.93 in
Visibility: 13 Miles
We turn on the AC when it gets unbearable. Right now it is off.

yeah its a pretty cool house when you actually look at all the extra stuff they put into it at the start. i would like to to a page about it so that more people know it even exists.

I keep it at 79 in the day, generally turn it up to about 82 at night, and if it's windy enough, leave it off during the day. In the autumn, winter and spring it's pretty much always off.
I don't see how you guys stand it being that warm in your house. I leave mine set on 73-74 and it's just right to me. Any more and it's just too darn warm.

We wear shorts and have some ceiling fans.
We leave ours set to 75 most of the time, but with 5 people and 2 dogs find that we usually need to turn it down a couple of degrees for dehumidification in the late afternoon.
