i've noticed this on some other cars mostely japanese, but mainly on 90's toyotas, my future brother in law has it on his car, but he doesn't know what it's for either.

it's a small plastic bit that sit's on the front window trim on both tides of the car... it's angled out a little bit... and it points backwards.... it seems to big to be just something to cover a seem in the trim.

does anyone know other examples of this and does anyone know what it might be for?... i imagine it could be something to create some sort of airflow over the windshield that either prevents water from attaching or maybe it has something to do with the A-pillar of mirror wake.

maybe it's nothing so spectacular but i can't imagine it's there for no reason

AFAIK, it's for water run-off purposes. I've got them on my Corolla. It seems to let water stream off it so it doesn't come in the car when it's raining and you have the window cracked just a tiny bit.

I've always thought it was a guide for the window- but that's only because I've had to roll one up at 125 mph. And yes, at 125, they do start to flex around a bit. ;)

It's a window guide, sometimes in a crosswind the suction or pressure on that side moves the glass too far in or out and when you go to raise the window it doesn't go into the guide... were it not for that lil plastic thing.

+1 for a guide. it doesn't do jack for water movement.

I wish mine had that. The window doesn't have much to hold it in, and on windy days the glass will bow out a bit and whistle and blow.

The window guide may be the "correct" answer. I wouldn't know since I've never tried to close a window at such a high speed. [shurgs shoulders]
