Tailpipe Emission Test Results with HHO

Here are my test results for my emissions. I did not get this test before I started injection hho ( i wish i did but I didn't think about that at the time). Anyway, I'm not exactly sure what the numbers represent. For anyone interested, take a gander. If anyone knows for sure if these numbers are better than typical, please tell me.

I'd call them damn good, I'd expect to see around 80 ppm HC in a well tuned large vehicle, maybe 40 ppm on a small one, and maybe .2 - .8% CO ... usually if you're hitting over half of the limit you have an issue that needs attending to before next test is up.

Edit: Marvin's last numbers at idle are 109 ppm HC and .26% CO I compared them to an '05 Honda civic when some panic mongering purveyor of yellow journalism used his motoring column to scream that all older than 10yo vehicles polluted 40x more than new ones and should be forced off the road, and discovered I was only allowed about twice what the newest vehicle in the test program was, and I was just under the limit for that civic on HC and half the limit on CO anyway.

Ah found I had Wile-E's paperwork nearby as well. '95 Escorts were classed as TLEVs Transitional Low Emission Vehicles. He got 23ppm HC and .9% CO.

Found a document you might be interested in... Was tryna figure if you made the ULEV limits or not... but trying to decipher in use and lifetime figures into tailpipe idle test figures is kinda hard... anyway FWIW... HUGE amount of data about US and worldwide emissions and fuel economy specs and testing regimes...

I have 2 test results to post for Rusty... One from the other day, and one from 7 years ago when he was much younger, less mileage, ran better, etc. You think Rusty qualifies as an ULEV?

Jay I noticed you are from Northern VA. I would like to get my VX tested, but it is not required here.

Is the test something you could get done if you wanted, even though it is not
required where I live in the Hampton Roads area?

You certainly could get it done if you wanted it done, but be prepared to pay to fix it if they find something wrong. If your Honda is OBD II then they don't even dyno the car. I'm scanning the Beast's last emissions test. I'll post it in a few minutes.

Its not OBD 2, 94 model year.

I doubt very seriously it would not pass. I was more interested in how close it would come to meeting the original California requirements for that model year when it was new. The original emissions warrantee was 5-50 and this car has 35k miles on the ODO.

Also curious about current emissions requirements, both Federal and California.

If it would pass those now, it supports my belief that the original problem was actually the fuel composition used to test originally, compared to todays 10% alcohol and much lower sulfur content.

How much is the test?

I believe it would have made a significant difference if the govt had required the fuel quality improvement instead of placing the additional burden on the manufacturer's to develop technology to pass emissions 15 years ago.

More powerful oil company lobbies versus auto manufacturer lobbies.

It costs $28.00, and you'd probably have quite a drive to get to an emissions testing station as since you are not in an emissions area the shops probably aren't buying that expensive equipment.

Chantilly and Ashburn, that's my neck of the woods... I live off of Sterling Blvd about a mile off of 28. I recommend getting an emissions test at the dealers around here. Usually if you emissions test at the dealer they can take it right in. If you go to a service station be prepared to wait a while, unless you go in the morning. I like Sterling Chevrolet. They are a Chevy/Saturn dealer. I'm sure being and authorized emissions station they have to do all makes though.
