Which would be better, MPG-wise? I have both cars available and I'm going to give one to my girlfriend. She's going to be doing 130 miles of driving every day to work. I want her to have the one that's going to cost us the least in gas.

The dx will get about 38, the ex closer to 35. Pretty close IMO.

EX has more bells and whistles, DX has no bells and whistles to break
EX has more horsepower, DX has better fuel economy

i LIKE having manual door locks and windows myself
all things(condition, miles, transmission) being equal the DX will save more...especially that many miles driven

Very nice post. I think I will try to give her the DX. It's rusted to hell and is a real POS, but it runs pretty strong. Relatively low miles at around 150k, I plan on having her run that thing straight into the ground.

I would also go with the DX. Swap the transmission with VX/CX tranny (which I did with mine when I bought it 5 years ago) and you should see 45 to 50 mpg. In case you're interested, I'm 90% sure I will be selling mine within the next month because I need a car with a more upright seating position to alleviate the stress on my back and right hip when driving. Mine has 181,000 miles with no rust (NC car from 1995 - 2007). The VX tranny was installed at 68,000 miles, so 62% of the total miles has been at super low RPMs. Runs perfectly, doesn't burn any oil, 53 mpg lifetime fuel economy.

I'd get the 96, since it's scangauge-compatible. A little knowledge and feedback will trump the car's small differences. You can still swap in the VX trans.
