How much will mudflaps hurt MPG?

I noticed that all new Hondas do NOT have mudflaps. A friend of mine said it is due to the aerodynamic drag caused by mudflaps. Honda is known for doing a ton of "little things" to help with mpg.

So, do we think that removing mudflaps will help with reducing aerodynamic drag?

When I was looking to buy a new civic a few months ago they wanted 80 bucks for mudflaps and had them preinstalled on all the cars. -_^

I would think that since it

I would think that since it is behind a wheel/tire and to a lesser degree, that they are underneath the car, the exposure to airflow is minimal. Not enough to really impact the actual mpg.
I'm guessing though...
I have a brand new OEM set I'd like to eventually put on my CRX. Got them off Ebay for $26. Take that! You money gouging dealership.

I took mine off. I don't like how they look. Plus weight and air drag might give you .00000001 less mpg.

but the huge mudflaps on trucks cant be good for mpg.

Stock Civic VX came with mudflaps all around. Aparently they're a hot commodity because I've had offers to take them off my hand. I eventually pulled them off myself and on a shelf in my shop they sit. I'll probably let them roll with the chassis when I sell it.

In taht case I'm off to the junkyard today to get the mudflaps from that VX shell just sitting there.

Boy I wish I'd seen that before it was torn apart.

Crap, I should have checked for rims... how could I have forgotten that? ARGH

At least I got all of the plugs off of it though.

Haha, I was going to ask you to buy me some rims when you first mentioned the vx, but then I realized I just bought some new tires so blah.
