on a jeep 4.0 the intake manifold gets as hot as header they are so close, shield it?

Not sure if anyone has seen a straight six on a 4.0 jeep but on my 95 i have no heat shields on the ehuast aftermarket header or on the bottom of the intake manifold. i know the hotter the motor usually the better fe. But this thing really gets a lot of heat soak would you do a thermal wrap on the bottom of the intake? I was going to wrap the header but nixed that idea and dont want to ruin them by rotting out so what about the intake? i have a WAI already getting warm air off the header just curious if intake is getting wayy to hot or is it a good thing. It has to come off this weekend anyway to replace gasket and ceramic coat the header.

so what do you think keep the intake manifold cool or let it get as hot as the header? what is best for fe

Are we discussing the temperature after you parked it, engine off for a while?
Or, is the manifold hot as you are driving? If so, what is the temperature?


I sound snide, but the idea is to create a learning opportunity here with my sometimes inane sounding questions.

Yes. The colder the air the denser, ergo, the more Oxygen, hence the more fire&power, etc.
Your problem is to figure how to accomplish the above within the constraints of practality.

Back to the top, air flow cools the intake as the engine runs.

i know its okay.

Yes the intake manifold get as hot as the header does becuase they a 1 inch apart. this while i am driving ive checked temeratures right after shut down and they are a smidge off but still the intake is extremley hit, cant hold hand on it.

so if i build a heat blocker onto the bottom of the intake would that help my FE thanks my questions thanks for responding

My real world Jeep experience goes back to the Flathead and F-Head engines. As I recall there was some kind of heat shielding.

I would guess that insulating the entire intake wouldn't hurt and might actually show.........something. Keep super accurate gas mileage (or dyno) records and let us know the results.
