| Description |
This is my civic... my FrankenCivic.
I call it FrakenCivic because it is made of parts from various different cars. It's a car unto itself... in a class all of it's own. I love it :-) It started out as a 1989 Honda Civic LX, but now it's a 1989 Civic body with a Civic VX engine and a CRX HF transmission. More modifications to come.
This was my first car purchased with economy in mind. I overpaid for this car because every other Civic I saw in the papers, classifieds, etc. was already sold. I was so desperate for a Civic that I paid probably twice what I should have.
It is an LX, which is good because I wanted power windows and doors. The whole idea is to have an older car with the benefits of a newer car.
When I first bought it it was in desperate need of work. The hood was badly rusted, the two passenger doors were dented and the drivers door and fender were dented as well. A few hundred dollars later all of these parts were replaced with junkyard parts, which gave me a multi-colored car. I then began the paint job, which took a VERY long time to do. I stripped the old paint, primered it (using rattle can is NOT a good idea), and painted it using base and clear coat. Read more here.
After weeks of wetsanding to remove orange peel I finally buffed and polished it. I put on the new trim that I ordered from www.hondapartsdeals.com and it looks beautiful. |
| Modifications |
- Replaced dented body parts
- Paint job
- New trim
- New seats from a Civic EX
- Optional Audio Console
- Currently running approx 2oz acetone per 10 gallons
- Lightweight wheels - I am using rims and wheels from a Civic VX
- Transmission from a CRX HF (higher geared)
- Engine from a Civic VX (fuel economy engine)
|
| Planned Modifications |
- Install cruise control (I have the pieces from a 90 Civic)
- PCV Catch Can
- Rear wheel covers (like the Honda Insight)
- Install a SuperMID
I have a lot of things planned for this car. Since I work at home I do not get much of a chance to drive it so it always takes a while to calculate gas mileage.
This car has already cost me a bundle, but I've loved every moment of the work I've done on it. I can hopefully reach my goal of 60mpg in this car, which I believe is very doable with enough work. |
