Gaslog data for The Scoot
Date Distance Fuel Used Cost of Fuel Notes MPG(US)
06/09/2009 83.3 0.764 2.519I did not drive much between fill-ups. I rode to work on the ninth at 45 mph. I almost never ride above 40 mph, and I have never ridden for an extended period at 45 mph. The ride was comfortable. All else being equal, I wanted to see the effect on my fuel economy, so I filled up on the way home. These are the results. 109.0
05/30/2009 145.4 1.207 2.359This is my first entry in a while. I parked the scoot for some time during the winter and spring. The exhaust gasket was shot and the muffler was held on with only the flange bolts and one mounting bolt. I purchased a new gasket and remounted the muffler (at all mounting points). It no longer sounds like a Harley. 120.4
01/08/2009 180.5 1.857 1.78783This was two separate fill-ups combined (I did not check the odometer after the first fill-up). The results are disappointing, but they do reflect the use and condition of the scooter during travel (e.g. less long distance trips, more stop and go trips, low tire pressure). I will be taking the scooter to work more often this month, and I expect the MPGs to return to previous levels. 97.19
11/15/2008 135.5 1.231 2.039...sh*t's not good. I need to focus.110.0
11/02/2008 186.6 1.729 2.459This was another tank riding at 45 mph often.107.9
10/18/2008 135.9 1.373 2.899I rode at over 45 mph quite a bit on this tank. I have been running late for work lately. The results reflect this.98.98
10/02/2008 161.8 1.362 3.549I did a number of 45 mph runs on this tank. I also used this tank with the new trunk installed and filled. I guess riding faster and with extra weight improves fuel economy (?).118.7
09/23/2008 149.2 1.299 3.629I rode at 45-50 mph quite a bit on this tank (about 5-10 percent of my riding). The results are not bad considering. 114.8
09/11/2008 127.2 1.1 3.589Business as usual.115.6
09/04/2008 212.5 1.836 3.619As stated in the description, I now have good reason to believe that my odometer is out of whack. I will have to figure out this problem, but for now I will log the data. EDIT: I found the source of the fuel economy anomaly - I found an old record of the gallons, price, and odometer reading at fill up, and it was two hundred miles ahead of my record on gassavers.org. Every subsequent entry was based on the sum of miles driven since the last fill up and the previous odometer reading (according to my gassavers.org log). After adjusting the subsequent odometer readings (save for the final one), I calculate the miles traveled at 212.5 miles, not 412.5 miles. With that out of the way...damn I'm getting good fuel economy out of this 150. 115.7
08/16/2008 132.7 1.293 3.639This seems impossible. But, I filled the tank exactly as I did for the previous entry. So, either there was less gas in the scooter when I bought it (before my first fill-up), and thus my previous log underestimates the fuel economy, or my scooter gets better gas mileage than any other 1985 Honda Elite CH150 in the world (sans modification). I'm skeptical. The next fill-up should shed some light on this mystery. One note: I did change the oil and spark plug (Mobile 1 RT4 10w40 motorcycle oil and the appropriate NGK plug). However, I did that less than 15 miles ago, so the impact of the maintenance had little to do with these results.102.6
07/20/2008 115 1.579 3.929This was the first fill-up on the scooter (1985 Honda Elite). This is just a baseline. I didn't do anything in particular to conserve gas - I just rode it. The results are somewhere between what I expected and what I was hoping for, but all together not too bad. I now have an initial goal of 80 mpg.72.83
