11/02/2011 569.2 11.2 3.699 50.82
10/28/2011 559 11.5 3.529Starting with this fillup, 4 wheel alignment with Honda specs caused terrible rolling resistance due to too great a toe angle.48.60
10/18/2011 590.4 10.8 3.459Definite underfill. Gas station was on a hill and surface was sloped.Added as much fuel as possible until it came to the top of filler neck and settled down, but fuel gauge needle wasn't in the usual place after driving away and it came off "Full" quickly.54.66
10/08/2011 593.9 11.1 3.559Same type of driving as previous tank: passengers most of the time and other extra weight (equipment for business), faster highway speeds. Left rear tire was down to 40 psi when when I checked after fillup. Cooler weather likely affecting FE as well.53.50
10/02/2011 591.6 10.8 3.639Extra passengers in car, drove faster than usual, and not as much engine of coasting as usual. Colder weather probably afected it too.54.77
09/28/2011 632.8 11.4 3.539More 60+ mph driving, carrying passengers, and not as much EOC (since I had passengers in car).55.50
09/22/2011 655.2 12.1 3.659Tank was nearly empty (needle on fuel gauge was further down than I had ever seen it). Car was un uneven surface when filling, so must have overfilled. It's only an 11.9 gallon tank. Drove 60 - 70 mph for at least 90 miles of the tank. Combined with cooler weather, I'm not getting the usual 58+ mpg.54.14
09/13/2011 665 11 3.719Thought tank was empty. Couldn't squeeze anymore gas in without it spilling out of filler neck. I wonder if this is an underfill.60.45
09/03/2011 622 11.6 3.779No explanation for this lousy FE except maybe the previous fillup was an underfill.53.62
08/20/2011 665.6 11.3 3.759Extra passenger and camping gear in car for 400 miles, 60 mph average speed for 400 miles (versus the usual 50 - 55 mph)58.90
08/12/2011 670.8 10.9 2.7998 miles of stop and go traffic. Pump stopped at 10.4 gallons but fuel gauge indicated no more than 0.5 - 0.75 gallons left, so i squeezed another 0.5 gallons in. Maybe an overfill. Can't believe I got over 61 mpg.61.54
08/03/2011 645.6 10.9 3.819 59.22
07/25/2011 672.4 11.1 2.849 60.57
06/30/2011 668.4 11.1 3.599It was a great tankful, but didn't think it was 60+ mpg. Perhaps slight underfill since gas station was full service only.60.21
06/13/2011 676.5 11.4 3.819 59.34
06/02/2011 665.9 11.8 3.859 56.43
05/21/2011 617.7 11.2 3.969state inspection, engine idled 10 mins for emissions test55.15
05/12/2011 610.7 11 4.069 55.51
04/28/2011 645.2 11.2 3.90995% highway at 50 - 55 mph avg for two 250 mile segments with some 45 - 50 mph country roads driving for the rest (lots of engine off coasting on country roads)57.60
04/25/2011 662.1 11.5 3.759Not sure why FE improved so much. THe usual engine off coasting, 50 - 55mph highway, turn off engine at long red lights, etc. Seems like outside temperature over 50F improves FE.57.57
04/03/2011 575.4 11.6 3.649Not sure why FE so bad. Had one 65 - 70mph drive for 35 miles, but otherwise normal driving habits.49.60
03/23/2011 589.4 11.5 2.459 51.25
03/20/2011 603.4 10.2 3.699Fillups are absolutely baffling at times. Pump stopped at 9.8 gallons, but I kew it wasn't full because of the position of the needle on the fuel gauge. I forced 0.4 more gallons into the tank and saw the gas bubble up to the top of the filler neck. Yet, when I started the engine, the needle wasn't past the Full mark as it usually is. And there's no way I got 59 mpg. It will average out with the next fillup that will show less than average fuel economy.59.15
03/08/2011 572.1 11.4 3.399 50.18
02/27/2011 547.3 10.8 3.239 50.67

02/10/2011 606.9 11.2 3.209 54.18
01/06/2011 594.7 11.5 3.179Suspect previous fillup was underfill b/c needle came off Full about 30 - 50 miles sooner than usual.51.71
12/20/2010 612.5 11.1 3.049 55.18
12/12/2010 608 11.4 2.959 53.33
12/07/2010 542.5 11.4 3.159Extra weight in car (same business trip), headwind for 350 miles, snowy/slushy roads for 50+ miles, and 55 - 65 mph to reduce travel time on 1,100 mile trip47.58
12/05/2010 548.5 10.5 3.0792 miles of tankful was barely crawling traffic for an hour. 250 miles = extra weight for business trip, strong headwind, 55 - 65 mph to reduce travel time on 1,100 mile trip. Driver's side tire only had 30 psi when checking during gas fillup. Not sure how long tire was low, but did notice car wasn't coasting as well as usual for several days.52.23
11/24/2010 623.2 11.1 2.959 56.14
11/08/2010 634.7 11.4 2.919 55.67
10/13/2010 654.1 11.4 2.719Last 1.5 miles of tank was crawling stop and go traffic. I'm sure it affcted fuel economy. 300 miles was with a passenger.57.37
10/07/2010 613.2 11.37 2.759Not sure why FE so much worse. Maybe colder weather (colder startups), previous tank was underfill?53.93
09/24/2010 666.1 11.36 2.639 58.63
09/10/2010 652.8 11.1 2.599 58.81
08/25/2010 700.5 10.9 2.579Previous tankful must have been an overfill or this one was an underfill. Only 10.9 gallons, but tank was very low (could tell from the needle on the gauge and almost no release of pressure from the tank when removing gas cap). But gas came spilling out of filler neck. ?? Hard to believe 64.2 mpg tankful.64.26
08/13/2010 606.7 11.2 2.699Extra passenger for 1/4 of the tank and had to use the AC for the passenger. There's no doubt that it's more efficient to roll down windows partially than to use AC.54.16
07/27/2010 631.1 10.8 2.739Passenger plus air conditioning for at 1/3 of the miles but still managed to make up for it for the other 2/3 of the miles.58.43
07/13/2010 626.2 11 2.799Advanced timing because engine no longer pings under light or moderate loads when hot. 200+ miles: with another passenger, AC on, faster highway speeds 60 mph), less engine off coasting.56.92
06/27/2010 676.2 11 2.749I guess the hot summer does wonders to improve FE with relatively warm "cold startups" etc.61.47
06/14/2010 649.8 11.4 2.799 57.00
06/02/2010 659.3 11.3 2.829 58.34
05/22/2010 639.3 11.35 2.879 56.32
05/11/2010 658.2 11.23 2.979Changed both CV axles about halfway through the tank (driver's side was split, passeneger side was on its way). Car seems to roll worse afterwards.58.61
04/29/2010 621.4 11.8 2.879Extra person & luggage in car for 50% of the tank. Also drove faster than usual. Previous fillup may have been slight underfill as well.52.66
04/23/2010 661.1 11.583 2.849 57.07
04/05/2010 625.5 11.79 2.779 53.05
03/26/2010 588.1 10.85 2.619Wow (!!!), cheap gas price. Was inNashua NH on business, needed to fill up and found this price at a Cumberland Farms just before getting on the highway...and it was 8 cents cheaper than any other station I passed during the day!.54.20
03/16/2010 633.6 11 2.729More selective doing engine off coasting the last 2 tankfuls after reading another member's thread questioning if it's if it's more efficient to do engine on coasting for shorter coasts. I wonder if it's making a difference sicne the last 2 tanks have been 56+ mpg.57.59
03/06/2010 627.6 11.1 2.799Fewer cold starts due to one segment being 200 mile highway miles. Did less engine off coasting and more engine-on coasting to test another member's theory that short EOC uses more gas than leaving it running.56.54
02/25/2010 613.9 12.3 2.729Suspect combination of factors produced sub-par FE: 1) Previous fill may have been slight underfiull b/c needle came off Full mark earlier than usual 2) Had to drive 70mph for 46 miles of the tankful b/c I was late for a meeting plus 3 miles of stop and go traffic 3) Gas pump for this fill may have been over-metering the correct amount of gas. 11.9 gallon tank when empty (and it was empty since I couldn't restart car at pump just before filling). But 12.2 total gallons to fill it?49.91
02/15/2010 608.5 11.3 2.739Picked up a nail in right rear tire and ran on a 15 - 20 psi tire for perhaps 50 miles before I noticed it ws low.53.84
02/03/2010 657.9 12.2 2.619 53.92
01/22/2010 637.9 11.4 2.739 55.95
01/12/2010 584.3 11.25 2.759 51.93
12/18/2009 623.1 11.9 2.639Had a great tank going until the end when caught in 4 miles/45 minutes of bumper to bumper traffic on Rte 95 belt outside of Boston. Uggghhh! Traveled 10 miles after traffic eased when car began bucking as it was running out of gas. Exited and followed GPS to gas station 1.5 miles off exit. FE would have been closer to 54 had it not been for the terrible traffic.52.36
12/16/2009 593.4 11.3 2.599 52.51
11/21/2009 566.9 11 2.739 51.53
11/04/2009 607.5 11.44 2.819 53.10
10/31/2009 632.6 11.4 2.649 55.49
10/21/2009 627.9 11.7 2.559 53.66
10/10/2009 605.7 11.2 2.479 54.08
09/10/2009 655.1 11 2.599Not sure if previous tank was overfill or if FE was just exceptional. Pretty much the same type of driving as last tankful, but with spectacular results this time. Doesn't make much sense.59.55
08/25/2009 571.3 11 2.789Suspect previous tank was slight underfill b/c needle came off "Full" about 30 - 40 miles sooner than usual. Mix of highway and hilly country roads w/ EOC on country roads and drafting trailer trucks on highway.51.93
08/24/2009 636.1 11 2.569Suspect slight underfill b/c tank seemed much closer to empty. Same type of driving as previous 10 tankfuls: lots of weight in the car. Drafting trailer trucks at 60 - 70 mph as much as possible.57.82
08/18/2009 728.4 13.75 2.579Purposely overfilled previous fillup with 2 gallons (unknown Honda Civic phenomenon) b/c it was cheap at $2.32 per gallon. The pump stopped at 11.75 gallons on this current fillup, so adding 2 gallons provides the correct fuel economy. Same driving as previous 2 tanks...lots of extra weight, some light city driving. Drafted 18 wheelers as much as possible.52.97
08/14/2009 607.2 10.9 2.319More light city driving while continuing to do restaurant fixture upgrades in VA Charlotte NC area.55.70
08/10/2009 570.3 10.7 2.489Loaded with heavy plumbing fixtures for business trip to VA, NC, SC. Mostly straight highway w/ 30 mins of stop & go in NYC and 1 hour of stop and go trafic south of Washington DC. Light city driving while doing restaurant fixture upgrades in VA Beach area. Also noticed right rear tire was low (only 24 psi). Not sure how many miles but think it's been a couple of weeks b/c same tire was low 2 weeks ago. Found small screw in tire and had it repaired.53.29
08/08/2009 560.7 10 2.739100 miles with lots of extra weight and 60 mph highway driving.56.07
07/31/2009 647.8 11 2.559This tankful was without the extra weight and passenger of previous 2 tankfuls. Much more EOC.58.89
07/24/2009 553.6 11.5 2.639Suspect slight underfill previous tank because needle came off "full" block on top of gauge about 50 miles sooner than usual. Can't figure gas tank out. Filled slowly and with nozzle at top of filler neck at each fillup, yet sometimes it underfills. Either way, this tankful saw a lot of extra weight (plumbing fixtures, extra male adult, luggage), so fuel economy definitely suffered.48.13
07/16/2009 598 11.2 2.569Again: lots of extra weight in car entire tankful for business trip (passenger, brass plumbing fixtures etc.). 60% highway (60 - 65 mph avg). 40% light city driving.53.39
07/12/2009 554.1 9.9 2.599Lots of extra weight in car entire tankful for business trip (passenger, brass plumbing fixtures etc.). 60 - 65 mph highway speeds. 10% city driving.55.96
06/25/2009 649.6 11.7 2.659 55.52
06/10/2009 573.6 10.3 2.519The usual driving. Pleasantly surprised that FE was this good considering suspected underfill last fillup.55.68
05/21/2009 636.2 10.6 2.299Suspect underfill, even though gas nearly spilled out of filler neck as usual. Was very close to empty...definitely not 1.3 gallons of gas left in tank (as 10.6 gallon fillup would indicate). Can't believe 59+ mpg this time of year with some cool mornings.60.01
05/05/2009 615.7 11.47 2.079 53.67
04/15/2009 613.5 11.3 1.99955 - 60 mph highway for 200 miles, 60 - 65 mph highway drafting 18 wheeler for 100 miles, 10 miles of stop and go traffic, remaining miles were the usual engine off and on coasting and 50 mph highway. Gas pump stopped at 10.5 gals, but I knew it wasn't full b/c fuel gauge was very low. Pulled fuel pump nozzle to neck of tank and added more gas until almost overflowing from filler neck.54.29
04/07/2009 564 11.85 1.939This lousy FE confirms previous fillup was an unintentional underfill. Some of this tank was 55 - 60 mph driving without as much engine off coasting, but don't think that affected the FE too much. Average of this and last tankful was 52 mpg (1,165.7 miles on 22.4 gallons) which is about my average for previous tankfuls.47.59
04/02/2009 601.7 10.56 1.919Suspect underfill b/c car was on slight incline. After driving on level road for .25 miles, fuel gauge wasn't showing completely full and subsequent miles logged indicated fewer miles than usual at certain points on the gauge.56.97
03/25/2009 591.1 11.45 1.899 51.62
03/09/2009 573.4 10.7 1.88946 mph avg for entire tank due to lots of secondary road driving at 40 - 50 mph. Lots of engine off coasting. Not as many cold starts as previous tank. This tank was on Vermont gas. Pump said 10% ethanol.53.58
03/05/2009 512.2 11.16 1.889Filled up in Vermont in middle of long business road trip. The usual driving, but 15+ mph headwind for about 260 miles. Besides that, can't figure out why only 45.9 mpg except perhaps underfill on last tankful (seemed like I wasn't reaching the same number of miles at 7/8 tank, 3/4 tank, etc. as usual).45.89
02/21/2009 573.4 11.22 1.979 51.10
02/09/2009 574.7 11.1 1.899Same type of driving. Fair number of cold starts. Suspect at least slight underfill. Pump stopped at 10.9 gallons, but definitely not 1 gallon left in tank (given where needle was on fuel gauge). Pumped in another .2 gallons until it was nearly spilling out neck, but still seemed underfilled based on where needle rested after restarting car.51.77
01/27/2009 574.2 11.637 1.83980% highway, 20% secondary roads and "light" city driving. Also spent 25 minutes spinning my tires in first and second gear to make it up the last half mile of a steep mountain road in Vermont. FE is pretty good considering this.49.34
01/22/2009 536.1 10.73 1.799Tank was mix of long highway trip to Vermont at 55 - 60 mph w/ secondary hilly roads at 45 - 50 mph. Quite a bit of engine off and on coasting, but also lots of cold starts with some city driving. Spent 35 minutes driving around to find a parking spot. The short cold starts and city driving killed an otherwise great tankful.49.96
01/14/2009 553.5 11.36 1.739Pump first clicked off around 10 gallons...knew it was not full, pulled the nozzle out slightly from the filler neck and continued pumping. Pump kept stopping as if the tank were full. Kept filling until gas slightly overspilled slightly out of filler neck. Had lots of short trips with multiple cold or semi-cold starts. Frigid temps. So not sure if 48.7 mpg is correct or the result of an overfill.48.72
12/27/2008 633.6 11.4 1.619Suspect previous 49 mpg tankful may be from underfill from 2 tanks ago or just a lot of cold starts and short trips made for poor FE. Fillup today had gas spilling out slightly, so I'm pretty sure it's an accurate fill.55.57
12/08/2008 571.5 11.62 1.759Cold weather and more cold starts than usual knocked the FE down. I may have overfilled it slightly as well. I let the gas run into the tank very slowly.49.18
11/20/2008 561 10.82 1.899Suspect underfill on previous fillup or overfill on fillup before that. Driving habits and type was same as previous tank, but shows much worse FE?! Can't seem to get consistent fillup.51.84
11/11/2008 657.4 11.4 2.129Suspect slight overfill on previous tankful (which would somewhat explain the lousy 49.8 mpg) and/or underfill on this tankful, which would explain the impossible 57.7 mpg...no way for this time of year w/ cold startups. But pump stopped just short of spilling out of filler neck, so it seemed like a normal fillup.57.66
10/30/2008 398.5 8 2.649Colder weather is killing me! Also, some short, faster than usual 50 - 55 mph highway drives to make my meetings on time.49.81
10/21/2008 585.6 10.55 2.639Holy smokes, 66 cents less per gallon than the last tim I filled up 2 weeks ago! Colder weather and more than usual short trips (cold engine startups) took a slight toll on my FE. Still, not bad.55.50
10/07/2008 613.3 10.76 3.299The usual driving. Blocked one half of my grill. Cooler morning temps.56.99
09/23/2008 680.8 11.38 3.499The 680.8 miles was on Vermont gas. Used to be that VT gas didn't have any MTBE and produced better FE. With ethanol replacing MTBE, it looks like VT gas stations have the standard 10% ethanol gas. Either I underfilled today (possible since I was sure the car was almost on dead empty) or the VT gas has less ethanol or none at all, producing my best FE ever (along with lots of engine off coasting and other hypermiling techniques). Edited 10/8/08: Made a mistake entering the amount of gas used, so I'm correcting it (from 11 gals to 11.38 gals...changes mpg from 61.9 to 59.8)59.82
09/11/2008 626.7 11.7 3.639Not sure why FE was less than my usual 55 - 56. Drove slightly more highway miles for first 150 miles at about 55 - 60 mph. But lots of engine on and engine off coasting for the rest of the tank.53.56
09/07/2008 643.6 11.1 3.549 57.98
08/26/2008 655.5 11.85 3.459 55.31
08/19/2008 624.3 11.15 3.679CHANGED MILEAGE ADJUSTMENT FACTOR FROM +3% to +4% after checking actual miles registered on my GPS versus odometer miles. Already knew odometer miles register 3% too few miles. But with all the engine off coasting and odometer not spinning while key is momentarily in off position, this causes odometer miles to register 4% fewer miles.55.99
08/08/2008 612.85 11 3.779Replaced bad passenger side front wheel bearing about 250 miles before fillup. Will see if FE improves. Old bearing was very nosiy and car did not seem to coast as well as my former '95 VX.55.71
07/14/2008 576.7 10.5 3.99930 miles of 70 mph plus extra passenger, other miles were the usual engine off coasting, 50 - 55 mph avg., and extra weight in the car (for business).54.92
07/10/2008 642 9.6 3.959Drove very conservatively and I knew it would be a good tankful. But I suspect previous fillup was an unintended overfill, and this fillup was probably an underfill b/c there's no way I got 66.9 mpg. Filled in New Jersey where it's full serve only, so attendant did not fill it the way I do to ensure a complete fillup. I suspect it should have been closer to 10.5 - 11 gallons (which would have been a more believable 58 - 61 mpg).66.87
06/28/2008 640.8 11.95 4.099Whew! Was almost on empty...11.95 gals in a 12 gal tank!53.62
06/20/2008 440.9 7.86 4.039Didn't run this tankful as close to empty as usual...filled up in RI en route to NY to avoid 22 cents per gallon higher fuel cost in CT or NY. The usual driving. Looks like 55 - 57 mpg is becoming my normal summer FE . I need to do a major modification.56.09
06/10/2008 625.5 11.75 4.059Suspect at least 0.5 gallon overfill b/c same type of driving as previous tanks so FE should be better than 53 mpg.53.23
05/28/2008 583.4 10.4 3.959Usual driving, lots of engine off and engine on coasting. 50 - 60 mph on highway.56.09
05/20/2008 615.8 10.7 3.799 57.55
05/09/2008 593.4 10.9 3.599NEW MILEAGE ADJUSTMENT FACTOR: +3% Measured miles driven on GPS vs. odometer and odometer mileage is under by 3% versus 4% that I was previously using (since purchase of new Sumi tires almost a year ago).54.44
04/28/2008 581.4 11 3.499Adjusted timing at beginning of tankful to try to solve bad knocking & pinging. Had adjusted on April 13 by turning cap counter clockwise, thinking it was retarding the timing. This time I turned it clockwise and knocking/pinging went away. Had extra 150 lbs entire trip and drove 80% highway at 60 - 70 mph, 15% back roads without many lights or stops, 5% city w/ lights and stopping. Suspect correct timing made a big difference.52.85
04/22/2008 590.1 11.36 3.459suspect overfill on previous tank and normal fill on this tank which is why mpg on this tank looks about avg51.94
04/15/2008 627.3 10.93 3.439The highway driving was 55 - 60 mph (very little 65 mph). Suspect overfill previous tank and/or underfill when I filled up today b/c I don't think I got 57+ mpg.57.39
04/08/2008 578.5 11.6 3.199Of the highway driving: 70% 50 mph, 30% 55 - 65 mph this time. Slightly higher speeds likely the cause for drop in FE compared to previous tanks.49.87
04/02/2008 594.6 11.5 3.099Used GPS entire tankful. Avg speed = 50.4 mpg, but drove 55 - 60 mph on highway and 35 - 45 mph on non-city Vermont country roads. The usual engine- off and engine-on coasting. Almost no knocking and pinging w/ 89 octane except under very heavy loads (steep mountain inclines).51.70
03/31/2008 586.7 11.25 3.299Filled up w/ 89 octane to see if knocking and pinging goes away52.15
03/19/2008 618.8 11.5 3.169No changes in driving style or type.53.80
03/11/2008 573.3 11.82 3.159Same type of driving as previous few tankfuls. I think previous fillup was short of completely full and therefore the slightly worse mileage. Avg previous tank and this tank to get correct avg.48.50
03/05/2008 568.7 10.6 3.079Same 50 - 60 mph mostly highway driving, few cold starts. I don't think I got a full tank...should have been at least .5 gals more. But even if 11.1 gals total, still over 50 mpg. Amazing what a good valve adjustment and slower speeds will do for FE.53.65
02/27/2008 564.5 11.4 3.129Mostly highway, 50 -60 mph, some engine on coasting, not a lot of engine off coasting.49.51
02/21/2008 580 11.06 3.12950 - 60 mph highway driving...mostly 50 - 55 (only about 8 miles of city driving), small amt of engine off coasting, more engine on coasting. Seems like keeping my speed below 60 improves FE the most. Also seems like FE has improved since valve adjustment around 2/13/08.52.44
02/17/2008 580 11.75 3.019Mostly highway driving, 50-60 mph49.36
02/04/2008 563.4 11.4 2.899Usual mostly highway driving. A few more cold starts than usual. Valve adjustment at end of tankful. See if it makes a difference on next tank.49.42
01/23/2008 256.9 6.4 3.119Suspect previous fillup was not quite full (due to differences in different pumps), so this "full" tankful makes mpg look lower.40.14
01/16/2008 541.4 10.8 3.079Tank was completely empty, yet only topped off at 10.8 gals, and gas spilled out neck slightly. I don't believe the 50 mpg, so I suspect it wasn't a full tank.50.12
12/19/2007 720.3 15 3.149 48.01
12/06/2007 695.5 15 2.969 46.36
11/29/2007 601.3 12.75 3.11999% highway 50 - 65 mph; 1 mile stop and go traffic, some engine off and on coasting, only 4 cold starts entire tank.47.16
11/28/2007 551.7 12.3 3.01990% highway 50 - 65 mph; 5% light city, lots of engine off and on coasting, 15+ cold engine startups44.85
11/13/2007 575.5 12.2 3.07995% highway, 60mph avg, some long engine off coasts, some truck drafting47.17
11/08/2007 532.5 11.6 2.999370 miles all non-stop highway 60 mph avg; remaining short highway and light city driving. Some engine on and off coasting. 50 psi in all tires.45.90
11/03/2007 508.7 10.6 2.83980% highway, 25% w/ 20 mph headwind, 10% "light city" (not many lights). Extra passenger w/ luggage 80% of the tankful. Suspect tank did not fill fully b/c next tankful already looks bad, even w/o passengers and only 60 mph avg highway speed.47.99
10/26/2007 576.7 12.6 2.649Same type of driving and weight as previous tankfuls. Think previous tank was error on high side b/c pump stopped too soon when filling up.45.76
10/23/2007 630.1 12.7 2.93990% highway 70mph avg, more engine on and off coasting, 250 miles of drafting behind truck; 10% city. Same heavy weight in car as previous tankful.49.61
10/21/2007 518.9 11.4 2.959Me and one passenger w/ lots of weight. 90% highway 70 - 75 mph w/ one passenger and lots of luggage, 10% light city w/ 2 passengers lots of luggage. almost no coasting. 15mph + headwind.45.51
10/05/2007 553.8 11.95 2.719 46.34
10/05/2007 566.3 11.3 2.669Almost all highway, 65 - 75 mph. Only 3 cold starts. Engine off coasting as much as I could, but not as much as usual.50.11
10/01/2007 593.8 10.7 2.619Lots of the usual engine off coasting, mix of highway and light city, and fair amount of "cold" starts.55.49
08/29/2007 559.7 11.6 2.689Nearly all highway, some light city, more cold starts and shorter trips than last tankful, lots of engine off coasting. Suspect last 60 mpg tankful was inaccurate due to incomplete fillup (pump issue), so average of current tank and last tank is probably closer to real MPG.48.24
08/15/2007 618.9 10.3 2.779All highway: 50% w/ 10-15 mph headwind, 50% w/ 10-15 mph tailwind except 7 miles city driving. All engine off at traffic signals. All engine off coasting on highway, many 1 mile +.60.08
08/13/2007 602.4 11.54 2.719Usual mix of city/highway; fair amount of engine off/engine on coasting.52.20
08/01/2007 562.2 11.1 2.839Removed temporary rear wheel skirts. 275 miles @ 70 mph, some drafting. Remaining miles mix of 55 - 60 mph highway and some light city. Engine on and off coasting.50.64
07/24/2007 513 10.7 2.839Added cardboard rear wheel skirts over (not flush) with rear wheel well. 430 miles highway 70 mph; 30 miles 50 - 55 mph; 30 miles light city traffic with lots of engine on coasting. About 100 lbs of extra weight in car. Didn't feel like wheel skirts improved coasting. 47.9 mpg is not great, may be partially from higher average highway speeds, but expected this to be negated by improved aerodynamics from wheel skirts.47.94
07/23/2007 584.3 11.2 2.839Usual mix of driving. Distance shown is adjusted up 3% for odometer discrepancy (GPS calibrated). Previously measured this factor at 4%. 52.16
07/05/2007 561.5 11.1 2.899Lots of short trips (15 miles or less...i.e. lots of "cold" starts). 3 miles very slow stop and go traffic jam on highway.50.58
06/18/2007 561.8 10.9 2.8895 miles of heavy rush hour traffic; 35 miles driving in stop and go funeral procession.51.54
06/12/2007 598.3 11.2 2.999More shorter trips w/ light city driving than past tankfuls. The usual engine off and engine on coasting. Avg 60 mph on highway.53.41
05/26/2007 564.3 10.8 3.169New Sumitomo HTR T4 175/70/13 tires 275 miles into tankful. GPS measurement indicates 4% too few miles w/ new tires (even though they are within .2% of the circumference of old tires). Mileage shown is adjusted for previous odometer and current odometer error. 52.24
05/17/2007 552.1 10.6 3.12990% highway: half 55 - 60 mph, half 65 mph; city was mix of heavy and light. Some engine off and engine on coasting. (This entry is adjusted 2.6% for % miles odometer is "under registering." I may edit all pre-tranny gaslog entries (which were apparently registering 2% too many miles) some day to reflect actual FE.52.08
05/12/2007 578.6 11.3 2.94990% highway: 55 - 60 mph; city was mix of heavy and light. Installed CX tranny at mile # 275. Discovered old tranny registered about 2% more miles than actual. New tranny is registering about 2.6% fewer miles than actual. The net effect for this tankful is about .4% too few miles, so the 50.94 mpg is actually 51.2 mpg.51.20
05/03/2007 598.6 11 2.969Lots of engine off and engine on coasting; 95% highway, 5% light "city". Record FE. But I'll never understand my wacky fuel gauge. It was lower than it's ever been, yet only filled 11.0 gals in a 11.9 gal tank. And the gas came gushing out the filler neck. Go figure.54.41
04/21/2007 567.4 12.6 2.7991 passenger besides me, full of luggage and other heavy items; 90% highway 65 - 70 mph; 10% light city; small amt of engine off coasting.45.03
04/18/2007 537.2 10.6 2.899Extra passenger and luggage for 2 people, other heavy items for business trip. Lots of city driving, short trips, cold starts. drafted 18 wheeler 250 miles @ 65 - 75 mph50.67
04/16/2007 310.8 8 2.899Extra passenger and luggage for 2 people, other heavy items for business trip. Several cold starts, some snow and mostly rain.38.84
04/14/2007 501.7 11.3 2.899 44.39
03/30/2007 689.5 13.34 2.74997% highway: 400 miles was 70-75 mph drafting trailer truck, 180 miles was 60-65 mph no drafting w/ heavy passenger and luggage, 60 miles was 45 - 50 mph 50 miles was stop and go rush hour traffic. Only 2 cold starts. Thought the fuel amount was another mistake. Was quite empty, but fuel pump stopped at 11.34 gals. It's an 11.9 gal tank. Can't explain the great FE w/ all the extra weight, fast driving and more rush hour stop and go driving.51.68
03/28/2007 564.5 11.16 2.569Incredible tankful!! I thought it was a mistake since I thought I was completely empty, but still apparently had 7/10 of a gallon remaining. All highway; almost no engine off or engine on coasting; 60 - 65 mph for 80% of tank, 45 - 50 mph for 20% of tank. Only 2 cold starts. Outside temp at 65 - 75 driving (55 - 60 degrees on cold startup). **squeezed in an extra 2 gals after pump stopped automatically...one of the wonders of the '92 - '95 Civic. Next fillup will reflect mpg based on adding 2 extra gallons to the calculation, even if I don't physically put the extra 2 gals in.50.58
03/27/2007 517.6 10.4 2.48990% highway, 10% light city driving. Highway: 50 - 60 mph for half the tank, 65 mph for other half. City: 2 miles stop and go traffic, remaining light city driving. Engine off and on coasting for half the tank. Halfway through tank: 1) removed half of grille block on radiator side for better cooling (engine temp got quite toasty on a 55 degree day w/ full grille block!), 2) blocked two smaller areas on both sides of full grille. 49.76
03/17/2007 542.9 12.1 2.5991 hr. of stop and go traffic; 50 - 60 mph highway driving; engine on and off coasting on larger hills.44.86
03/10/2007 522.6 10.8 2.52990% highway, 55-60 mph driving. Some engine off and engine on coasting. Several days of bitter cold arctic air; about same # of cold starts as last tank.48.38
03/01/2007 537.6 11.5 2.43980% highway, avg 60-65 mph; 20% city (not hardcore city); engine on and engine off coasting; about 15 - 20 cold starts. Increased tire pressure to 45 psi all around.46.74
02/10/2007 466.1 12.5 2.189All highway 70-75 mph except 5 miles stop and go traffic, minor bus/truck drafting, minor engine-on coasting; no grille block; tires @ 36psi37.28
