1985 Pontiac Fiero: quite possibly the sportiest economy car out there!

Something like that. I know they used the whole front engine cradle and suspension from a FWD car and bolted it to the rear for the fiero. it's even still got the tie rods on the wheel hubs albeit they bolt to the frame instead of a steering rack

From what I've heard is that the rear end is derived from the Phoenix/Citation and the front is from a Chevette.

There were tons of 'generic' parts with the Fiero. The side mirrors are the same as a Firebird, as well as the door handles and headlamp motors. The 2.5L engine was as sophisticated as a boat anchor which was found in everything from Chevy Celebrities to Astro Vans. Even the 2.8L V6 option was the exact same as my dad's 1989 Pontiac 6000.

It was a great car though. Pop-culture 80s for sure. See? This is what happens when car companies are forced into selling cars in a market that's slumping. They make really innovative products that push the boundaries.

Two cars I always liked that were gas sippers but no longer built.
One was the Opel GT and the Saab Sonett III. My sister had the Sonett and it was a fun little car as long as you were under 6'.0 foot tall. Me being 6'4" my knee and the dash board were not a happy match.
The Sonett weighed in at a whopping 1800 lbs and had a Cd back in 1974 of
.32. It had 110 hp 2.0 liter ford V4.

How many remember these two.
