cuts in my rear bumper
i have mentioned in other threads that i cut the lower half of my bumper with a circular saw in order to reduce the 'parachute' effect from my rear bumper. another alternative is the oem diffuser from honda, which is really just a peice of plastic blocking the 'parachute'.
cutting the bumper is better because it eliminates some of the wake behind the car as well. ultimately the best setup would involve cutting the rear bumper and adding some panel to smooth out the air flow.
anyway some pics:

man you really think its clean? i think its filthy.
anyway thats the itr 22mm rear bar with the beaks kit. dont let the pics fool you, the car looks pretty high, but since the camera was on the ground when i took the pics it really changes the perspective. like you physically couldnt get this view by putting your head on the ground, it would still be too high. my car really is kinda low.
i am unsure of the gains from this mod. but i made the cuts early in march. if you look at my gas log for this car you will see that there is an increase in mpg however that could also be because of the return of summer. anyway i speculate that this is worth anywhere between .5 and 3.5mpg

Ahh... thats what I figured... weren't people have issues with the bar mounting bolts tearing without the beaks kit?

yea there were a lot of problems with that, mainly with the 96-00 civics, but others did have some issues. i would rather be safe than sorry.

But seriously, my bumper doesn't like this, I'm hoping I can do something good with my undertray, because this would look severely ugly on the crx. Good job though.

Im wondering it it would be worth it on the VX. Does the VX have the diffuser you spoke of?
BTW, nice looking car. Those are HX wheels? What tires?

The vx has the diffuser, put it's just a little piece of junk, nothing like a full tray.

If you want to "clean it up" a bit. (not that I think it needs it) You could get those little rubber things that go on the edges of your car doors and rig that onto the cut part.
Well done!

If you want to clean it up a bit, maybe you should build your own bumper from fiberglass. Perhaps make it a boattail to reduce drag further.

theres a good idea if i had the time... i plan on just doing a tray to meet the bumper though, that should only take a couple hours.
the tires are just some crappy 195s in the front and 185s in the rear. nothing sticky, yet.
