Honda N600 sedan 3 cars for $1000
I found 3 1972 Honda N600 sedans for sale and I am considering buying them. I have never done a large project but my plans are to keep one of them and part out the other two to make the 1000 back. One of the cars runs, the other is a partial electric conversion (guy says they kept the original block and did something to the rest?), and the third is a parts car. The third one they say is almost complete a few missing pieces such as the front bumper and grille but it does have the engine and drive train but does not run. Also from what they said it sounds like they are all pretty rust free but the electric one has the straightest body.
Is this a good deal? What would you guys suggest? Thanks for any input or advice.

wow, that was fast! What would you do with the other two and how would you go about selling them? I was a little dissapointed that they weren't the coupes but still a very neat little car.

where are you located? I have a coupe I'm going to sell sometime soon, but it will be more pricey than $1000 (rebuilt engine)
You could either try to part out the other cars on ebay AFTER you have a running car, or try to sell them as parts cars on ebay/etc.
Either way, I think you can get most of your money back, especially with a clean shell.

I am in northern Colorado. I was thinking ebay too. I saw an older auction that ended for $910.00 and that thing looked like junk with a ton of pieces missing.

BTW... I'm in Salt Lake City...
I actually bought my n600 in Colorado Springs. Made the long drive all by myself.
The z600 I'm going tosell has a rebuilt engine in it, but it hasn't been fired up in 7 years. I'm going to get it running and sell it, probably for around $2000-$2500. If you're interested keep it in mind. Rebuilt engines themselves usually go for around $2000-$3000. The body of this z600 is virtually rust free and the paint is in pretty good shape. I just need to slap some new shocks on it, get the engien going, and then it'll be ready to sell.

Sounds like a pretty good deal. I sunk $1250 into my initail investment in three N600's...and none of them run.

I'd be curious to know about the partial electric conversion. What did they do? What parts are in it?

Yeah, I could use a source of cheap parts for my conversion, if the parts are the right kind!

if you have titles for them then sell them as that, the one that we are getting (at some point... I hope...) only one of them seems to have a title, and I am sure there are other people out there with simaler problems.

None of mine have titles, but I had the same issues with my Porsche 914. All I did was go to the DMV with a bill of sale, and since the car was so old (1973), they just issued me a new title. I'm not sure if this is something only allowable in GA though...

In Wisconsin, getting a replacement title if the vehicle was last titled by someone else is a major chore. You have to pay the title fees, and a bond equal to the valule of the vehicle, which they (the DMV) hold for a year while they attmpt to contact the previous title owner and let them buy the vehicle for the amount of the bond. I may have left out a detail, but it isn't worth doing for ordinary cars. Of course, if it iis just that the title is lost, that is an easy replacement.

Honda N600 -Matt Timion & others,
Any idea what those N600's get MPG-wise? I only once saw one on the road...couldn't believe how small it was. Almost a joke. I'd better have one of those before I die. That and one of those tiny (original) Mini's. Then I (at 6'3") will go pick up my buddy (at 6'7'') and drive around town. That's one thing I definitely want to do. lol

If you really want small, you should check out on of these. They pulled ~90mpg in the 50's. My friend has one in her garage that I would love to restore for her eventually.

If your friend ever wants to sell that car, please let me know.
Brain D. - The n600 is supposed to get between 45 and 50mpg.

Messerschmitts are cool! The German company resorted to building cars after Germany was defeated in WWII - Messerschmitt used to be the builder of Nazi aircraft. Neat little cars though!

I'll probably let myself know first , but if there's no way I can afford it I'll send you a PM. I figure the only way I'll get my hands (work on, not own) on it is to restore it because it has a lot of sentimental value to her.

I bought these cars.
Hey, I found this thread while researching my new N600's. I actually picked up the last of these cars on Thursday.
I'm planning on converting them to EV's. I may keep one of them gas as it supposedly runs (ran). It's body is in fair condition and the interior is the best of the three.
One of them was converted to an EV previously. I haven't explored it entirely, but they used a 1.5hp 36v/40Amp GE Series wound DC motor mounted on top of the transmission in place of the engine. The speed control looks like it may be resistance driven (very inefficient). The body is in good condition on this one.
The third car is in the poorest condition and may end up being used for parts....
I'm starting with the existing Electric and then moving on to the gas car. I'll post some pics when I get a chance.
Questions: Is there a way to get the key codes for the locks from somewhere in/on the car? I do not have keys for two of these cars. Also, are there any cheap trailer tires out there that fit these?
Thanks.
-Luke

Hi Luke,
About the keys, you'll want to talk to Miles Chappell ( http://www.600miles.com/). You can send him the lock cylinders and he will have keys made for them. I believe it's rather cheap too.
For the tires you'll want to get ones rated for automobile use. Trailer tires probably wouldn't be too safe. Give me a day or so and I'll see if I can get tirerack to list the tires online.

Thanks for the info!
The trailer tires were going to be a cheap way to keep them mobile and off the ground. There is only about one set of inflatable tires between the three cars. However, I got a great deal on some custom racing tires from someone local that seem to fit well.
I plan on getting some of the Kumhos from tirerack for the next car.
Thanks,
Luke
