If you really don't need the cash why don't you donate it to GS. So we can spread the joy

hmmm - that's definitely a thought. What are the guidelines for its use, and who would keep track of it? I think it'd be neat to let folks see what instrumentation can do for them.

Ideally I'd install it in my wife's Honda Odyssey, but she "can't be bothered with it" so to avoid headaches I'll probably leave her van be

Hmm. I'm brand new as of last week and already you people have got me thinking about it. Don't I need OBD-I or OBD-II for this though? I've got an '89 Honda CRX....They don't have OBD. What now?

I think it's fair to say several GS members would likely buy it from you to loan out.

The way I see that working, someone (preferably a US resident, for reasons of mailing hassles) would have to act as its custodian.

1) a number of GS folks cough up a fair purchase price to you
2) it then gets loaned out to other GS members in good standing (whatever that is)
3) the borrower forwards a "deposit" (= the GS purchase price) + shipping
4) the deposit is refunded upon return or upon forwarding to the next member who wants to try it.

I know of a guy who "lends" specialized (expensive) cable lug crimping tools in this manner to people building their own EVs.

EDIT: or even to rent out...

Brian - you would need a SuperMID for your car. SG1 & 2 are ODB2 only.

I'd be willing to chip in a few bucks on the donation. I say rather then a rent system to getter of it must do some sort of good write up,

Lindermant, Are you going to spring for the USB data cable upgrade?

I've been watching eBay for a used SG1 for the GS loaner, but they're rare as hens teeth.

metro - I'm considering the USB upgrade. I'll wait to see xcel's write up on it over at cleanMPG before I swallow the additional cost.

edit: metro, PM sent.

I kept my SGI for checking other people's cars so I don't have to pull my SGII.

from the photo, the SGII looks like 2 guages: 1 rectangle, and 1 sort of half round.
