How does 530 mi per tank for a VX sound?
Just curious how this stacks up. Also, anybody with an VX owners manual want to fill me in to the size of the gas tank? Gonna start topping off like a champ. Thanks fellows

Tank should be around 12 gallons, not that that means anything much.
530 doesn't sound horrible, not amazing, but good, depending on how much gas you used,

second that. I can find it in the manual if anyone wants solid proof. But I've never put more than 9 3/4 gallons in my VX.

The VX tank is 45 liters or 11.9 gallons
I have a 92 VX and it has an 11.9 US gallon gas tank or 45 liters.
This is often mistaken for 10 Imperial (UK) gallons.

That sounds like what my Civic has...I can usually stuff 11.X gallons in after running it low.

hmm, that's strange, I swear I read one of my manuals stating that the CX/VX only had a 10.9 gal tank (part of their weight savings)
I'll check those sources some more because if that is the case, then I'm filling up waay too early in my VX.
Edit: Ok, so after checking the Honda Parts Catalog... It shows two completely different part numbers for the fuel tanks. It shows one that is specifically meant for the CX/VX and one for the rest of the civic models. And this is just a comparison between the hatch models. There is a third design for the 2/4 door versions as well.
Unfortunately, it doesn't show capacity on the unit.
I'm so cornfused I should just bring a spare gallon of fuel with me in my car and see just how far down I can run it as I've never put more than 9.75 gallons of gas in my VX. That was when the gas needle was below the red mark too!

According to my gaslog, it looks like the most I've ever gotten in my Civic is 12.206 gallons (US).

When you go to a gas station, the pump should tell you how many gallons you put in, if your gas pump doesn't tell you how many gallons you put in, then you should try a differnt gas station, once you know how many gallons you put in, you take the number of miles you went, and divide it by the number of gallons, it's really very simple.

The pump clicks off after I put near 10 gallons in, but then I can squeeze in another 2+ gallons- seems a high amount to top off with- I just thought I had a faulty fuel indicator in the tank.

I have found that the amount of gas I can fit in the tank, bare bones, is generally a little higher than what the number which the manufacturer reports it as. In either case, at 530 miles, you are doing pretty well, whether the tank holds 10 gallons or 11 gallons. I certainly would not be unhappy with those numbers.

Ok, so I found the other source that said the Civic VX/CX is a ten gallon tank. The owners manual.
It states, and I quote:
Quote:
Gas Station information
Fuel Tank Capacity:
(US:VX, CX)
38l (10.0 US gal, 8.4 Imp gal)
(US: DX, Si, Canadian Cars)
45l (11.9 US gal, 9.9 Imp gal)
|
So it seems that there are some variances between the models. That coupled with the knowledge that Honda does have two different part numbers for gas tanks between the VX/CX and the other models leads me to believe that something somewhere went terribly wrong and my VX is the only one that has a 10 gallon tank, lol. But then again that statement about Canadian cars has me a bit confused. Does it refer to Canadian assembled Civics (which most all of them are) or does it refer to Civic models sold in Canada?

probably depends on the year. bought my vx new in 94. has 10 gal tank. got 605 miles before i filled up . drove from el paso tx - san diego ca fully loaded. of coarse speed limit was 55 back then and gas was .99 gal. after 14 1/2 years with my vx still love it!

I think that's right. I'm pretty sure my '95 VX has a 10 gallon tank. I once ran it dry on purpose, because I wanted to know. The nozzle clicked off at 10.138 gallons.
I once looked at all the VX gaslogs, looking for very large fills. I found only a very small number of fills over 10 gallons. The record (at least as far as what I could find) is 11.174, here: http://www.gassavers.org/garage/viewgaslog/796. I think the only other car with a fill over ten (10.236) is here: http://www.gassavers.org/garage/viewgaslog/217.
Those cars are a '92 and a '93. I think somewhere along the way I got the idea that those years had a 12 gallon tank, and then they switched to 10. Not sure, though. But I'm darn sure that my tank ('95) is 10, not 12.
