Roof racks

Waaaay back in the summer of '06 I did a few runs to look at the effect roof racks have on FE.

Originally, this came up in argylesocks' intro thread because he was using his Yaris to carry bikes to races he was attending.

Mini-experiment: the wrath of roof racks (MetroMPG.com)

The comparison was between:
  • A - no roof racks
  • B - empty roof racks
  • C - a mountain bike on the roof racks
For all the gory details: http://metrompg.com/posts/roof-racks.htm

In-Car Hauling

Is there enough room to put the bike inside (fold the seats -- including the front passenger?)

...or is it mostly a rack test?

There's room for a couple of bikes inside.

I saw this a few days ago on your website darin.

Sometimes I put my bike inside my car (I just take off the front wheel). I never understood ski/snowboard racks. Even in small cars you can fit 3 or 4 snowboards + 3 or 4 people at the same time.

I went on a trip to vermont this year. We fit 7 people + 7snowboards in a VW GTI and a Honda Civic (no racks!).

And the ski racks are always on SUVs that can hold over 20 skis without a rack! I guess they don't want to get the leather interior wet.

That's why it's great having a trunk that will almost close with two bikes in the trunk without folding the seats down. It seems like every time I travel for a protest, I end up traveling part-way back with a bike in the trunk.

Just have to be careful for steep driveway angles with the longer loads
