V12 diesel engine... Good economy?

Perkins CV12 - as used in the UK Challenger 2 tanks:

1200kw!!! It is also 26.1 litre, so about 2.2 litres per cylinder

If you had 1 cylinder from that, it would probably do for a powerful but economical car!

A pair should even that out, or go as far as a 3 :-)

That's actually a really good amount of power for it's weight... It doesn't say it's economy - but something tells me it's pretty good for it's size and output.

my understanding that inline twins are worse vibrationwise than single cylinders. If you wnat it smooth go for 6
