IS this going to be your daily driver now and what happened to the Saturn? You're really going to have fun with it. I see you're going to get a block heater that a must where you live if you want good mileage with it. Congrats and enjoy the ride.

I picked it up yesterday. I've had a pretty good day today with it. I averaged 65.1 since I topped it off today. The dealer didn't get it "full" and I wanted an accurate reading. One of my segments today was 5.3 miles long and I managed to get a 98.4 mpg from it. That hybrid battery is pretty cool for extending those glides just a tad and not letting the mpg drop while I'm backing it in the garage.

The Saturn is fine but my wife's work is planning on moving sometime this summer which would take my daily work commute from 31 miles to 68 miles. I can get the kind of mpg I was getting in my Saturn with about half the effort. Of course, I'll still put the same effort into the Prius so I'll probably end up with some really stupid high mpg numbers.

I sent a PM to "The Commish" to ask him how to proceed. I'm supposed to take over for Darin as our team captain becuase he is going to take a breather. It would be too cool if I was the captain and couldn't compete.

If that's what you want to use as the daily driver just make your base fill and then get at least another 3 gallon fill by the end of the cycle.

I know I'm going to love the car. With the numbers I was seeing today it may actually pay for itself before I get the loan paid off.

I think that's probably what I'll do. I just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't upset the balance that is required by the rules.

I was pretty amazed at the numbers. We traded a Honda Odyssey that go 24 MPG's it adds up quick and that was at $2.00 gallon.

Congratulations, that will be a lot of fun for you. There is that much more to pay attention to while you are hypermiling in a hybrid. Team slow burn is going to have some rediculously high mpg numbers soon...maybe not % above EPA, but the average MPG figure should be awesome.

I think you'll be supprised. Unless his route changes the speed range that Larry is driving in is perfect for some really high numbers. If if highway driving then yea it won't be that great % wise.

Larry -

Congratulations on your new blueboy.

When are you going to modify it to be a plug-in hybrid ?

Are you going to use your DOHCtor Green MPG as an even more outlandish testbed?

Nice Ride

Great choice. I dream of owning a Prius or Civic Hybrid -- much better mileage + emissions than what I have now, and a true challenge to hypermile. I drove the First Gen Prius when it was introduced, and was really amazed by the comfort and utility.

Excellent work on the above-average mileage! Keep us posted on your progress...

James- It had 23 miles on it as I drove off the lot and just over 12 of those were from my test drive.

I got some tips from another Prius owner today and I was able to raise that 98.4 to 118 and I averaged 75+ for the day. The speed range that it took will probably make it impractical for everyday use. If I could make it to Hybridfest 2007 in time for the MPG challenge I could probably do quite well. At any rate, the tips I got today should help me raise my commute numbers some as well.
