Goal achieved!
Well, after joining GS.org I set a decent goal for myself to be able to drive 400 miles before having to stop and fill up. With my little 8gallon tank, thats an impressive goal if I may say so. I used to stop around 315 and about 340 after slowing down a bit.
One my last tank, I drove 409.35 miles on 7.38 gallons of gas, blasting that old record clear out of the water!!, resulting in 55.46 mpg!
The best thing, I see only room for improvment. I had a case of the speedies about half tank, my exhaust was broken acouple days, I'm having bad idling vibration problems, construction around house, some more weight can be removed, and my driving technique can still be fine tuned. And a big killer, most 80% of my trips are under 10 miles, so I have lots of cold short runs.
What do you all think? `95 1L 5speed, EPA combo at 40mpg...

Gratz, 'dog! 60's tanks are right around the corner !
Control your speedies and get the idle issue solved . With the short trip driving have you considered a block heater ?

I'll try, but I dunno, that's pretty high haha.
If I had longer trips at proper operating temperature it would help.
But, exhaust is fixed, construction is gone, and those speedies are gone:P
Anyone care to explain the block heater? I'm guessing its just a magnetic device that sticks to the oil pan and heats the oil up to like 160 or so? Does this need pluged into an outlet?

Yes a block heater would need an outlet - or maybe a solar panel to charge a dedicated battery ? might be spendy there though .
The block heater could be a core plug style or a magnetic style . I ve seen some that use a special adhesive to attach to oil pans etc .

The problem with that is that where I park my car, there is no electricity. I might just have to put that on my "to-do" list and fiddle with the idling/weight now.
How do I get one of those banners you guys have in your sig's?

Go to your garage, look at your car. At the bottom it has a link that you can copy and then "insert a picture" into your signature, when it asks for the address of the picture put the url you copied.

Lol, "in no time". It took me so long to burn those 8 gallons off, I cant even remember where I filled up last. I think it took me alittle over 2 weeks since Im working everyday and its only a 6 mile round trip to work.

baddog, the heater for the oil pan is a stick on. Requires a plug-in. Summit Racing have them. It is most helpful to warm the engine overnight. Not as important on your trip home from work after a warm day. Would make quite a big difference in the cold weather. Don't warm up your car anytime, just get in and drive. Won't hurt your car and will help mileage on short trips.

Congrats on making your goal Nic, that's awesome!
I think Matt has it right: Set your next goal right away and start working towards it.
My close-in goal is a 35 mpg tank, and longer-term I have my sights set on 100% over EPA, which would be 44. Dunno if I'll ever get there, but just trying puts me way ahead of where I'd be if I wasn't.
