2 New Records But...
just set personal records on miles(388) and days(13) per tank but...
~28 mpg avg in recent fillups is not enough even tho it is great for a full size oldsmobile. after looking @ civics and prizms that did not work out, found a 1998 toyota corolla. another "but" tho, auto tranny.
this year model was pretty good(28/36 old epa) even w/ auto. private seller wants ~$3300 for it. again, pretty good as retail is well over $4k.
if i can get better than the old epa avg it might be worth buying. selling the olds for $1300. what do you think? toyota guys help me out.

My ex had a '02 Chevy Prizm (Corolla in disguise) 4-dr with an auto trans. With no modifications and normal driving she could get upwards of 38 mpg out of it. I say go for it.

I dunno. I'm not planning on getting another auto tranny car.
I see you're in central FL. Plenty people there. gotta be something available in your price range that's not auto. Been using the search tools?
Craigslist.org
Cars.com (has an (advanced" search tool)
Local classified papers, they usually also have web sites?

AUTOTRADER.COM has some nice cars sometimes.
HERE'S a search for manual autos $2000 and under within 100 miles of Orlando. There were 111 hits. Dunno how much it may help, but it can't hurt...

Thanks for the "Autotrader" tip.
It has a "See more search criteria" feature which lets you get specific. Has a text box near bottom of that where I was able to enter "HX" as in Civic. Found some that I didn't find with other search sites.

They're pretty reliable, I have two with ~175k and ~240k. That being said, unless I had a brand spanking new car with an unlimited super duper warranty I would always have at least a couple autos. If one goes down just use the other while fixing it. Having to rely on someone else to make repairs costs a lot, and IME they tend to try to rip you off.

can't afford to insure two cars of my own, point well taken tho. i do however
use my wife's car and visa versa when necessary. BTW, i'm looking @ toyota's corolla twin, the prizm. they are less expensive and easier to find ABS.

I'd love to have spare cars but my good wife hates paying extra insurance and registration costs.
Since I don't have a spare wife I try to take good care of the one I have...
