I have one of those that I bought to install after removing my A/C, it would appear that at the factory they used magic, or heat to attach that sheat to the back of the grill, I ended up useing zip ties, then I made a external grill block that basicly covered the same area but doesn't hold snow when you bump a snow bank.

That's great, thanks for the tip.
Is it safe to use in an A/C equipped car?

I wouldn't recommend using it on an A/C equipped car unless you don't plan on using the A/C.

Tom that guy ripped off my picture!
http://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=4122

It's my 94 in the picture. I thought all VX's had this.
I run my AC during the Summer with no problems.

I thought I've seen that picture before. Well, then I'll change the credit of the picture to you, sigifrith.

Shouldn't cost much if you can find one in a scrapyard.

Majestichonda.com had it when my friend ordered it a few months ago. Sadly his VX was wrecked and I bought it from him and have it on mine.

They should still have them. Pretty sure it was around $10 from this site as well.

Thanks for the info guys. I do have A/C would that explain why I don't have one on my VX? I'll just have to remove in the summer.

My AC works fine with the block installed, no overheating in temps of 100 degrees. Now it might work better, but I probably will just leave it in as I did this last summer.

How would your AC work if that's sitting right in front of your condenser?

That part is included on all models. The dealer cuts it off when installing the OEM AC kit. I pulled one off a 4 door at the junkyard.

I think you're talking about the one that sits next to the radiator, that mounts from inside the engine bay. That is one that I've seen on all other model civics that didn't have a/c, but the one we're discussing is the one that mounts inside of the grill in the bumper.

I found that the black plumbing pipe insulation works very well for a grille block, where mine is not covered by the factory one. Looks fine and you can take pieces out or put them back in depending on the ambient temps.

If you remove any just toss them in your spare tire well.

Latest mileage is 47.88 MPG. Temps cold enough to freeze standing water, and winds of 25 MPH. Pics show the added grille blocks using pipe insulation on the left in addition to the factory shield behind the grille.

Also added extension to the WAI to gather heat from the area between the catalytic converter and engine block, instead of the top radiator hose area I was using in the summer. Pics of that also. Intake snorkel was reversed and trimmed slightly before to eliminate contact with top radiator hose. Mileage was for a distance of 364 miles, all interstate averaging about 67 MPH with no hypermiling and very little drafting opportunities. Half of that drive was at night in fairly heavy traffic on I95 south of DC and 64 east of Richmond.

WAI extension was typical preheater tube for old carbureted engines.

gary

Pipe insulation...that's perfect! I have some large gaps I want to fill and I haven't been able to think of a good material for the job. Caulk saver, made of the same material but about the size and shape of the inside of pipe insulation, was the closest I could think of but isn't large enough...thank you.

Thanks Bro.

Cut it slightly longer than you need to give it some friction to stay in place.
