of course the timing is laughable, as I was just planning the transmission swap (assuming I can get the damn thing off tomorrow, and that there is no rain).

here are the symptoms: When I drive (in any gear) the car revs to 3000rpms, and then drops down to the correct RPM where the car drives. IOW, the RPMs go high and then go down at which point the car starts to move.

did you try the 5th gear

did you try the 5th gear challenge? Try to start the car in 5th gear and the call should stall even if you bring the revs up. If it doesn't and the revs slip a lot then its time for a new clutch.

Well, how many miles, and how did the 5th gear challenge work? It could be the the clutch (most likely) or the manual transmission fluid. Does the pedal act differently (like go further to the floor to engage a shift, and/or is it hard to shift?)

I'm going to have to try the fifth gear challenge tomorrow. It quit doing it, so I'm wondering if it's a fluke.

Needless to say, if i swap transmissions I will be installing a new clutch while I'm in there. It would be stupid not to.
