Which tranny should I use next? & motor?

hello again. I've tried some gas save tips from here and it saved me some mpgs!!! I'm excited and I'm looking for more ways to save mpgs. I have a 1990 accord 4dr 5speed. I do not have a 3rd gear. I shift 1-2-4-5. When i try to shift into 3rd it grinds and pops out of gear all the time. So I need a new tranny if I want 3rd gear. Which tranny would be the most fuel efficient? The lowest rpms in 5th? I found out the civic trannys wont fit the engine i have.
Anyone have a link where i can buy a FE tranny for my accord? Or a link to make my own custom tranny? Also has anyone here fit a civic engine/transmission an a accord?

it will probably be better to look for a used tranny
and spend some of the extra moeny on some sumitomo htr t4 tires and pump them up to around 50 psi you will really get better mpg

There aren't too many accord fans out there. I know we all get attached to our cars, but have you considered selling the accord for a civic? You would be money ahead with increased fe.

yes I have considered selling the accord for the civic. Most likely I will go that route. I do have sentimental value in that accord, so i may just park it. There are alot more options/possibillities with the civic. I did shop last weekend with no luck, of course I want the crx or 92-95 civic hatchback.

Thanks

1-2-4-5 is the most efficient pattern in my vw.
