Peak torque

I haven't a clue how to determine this. How do you go about finding the peak torque RPM of an engine? Is it the shift point of the automatic transmission? Can it be found in the manufacturer's specs?

I'd use google. See if you can find a dyno chart showing horsepower and torque curves for your engine.

I went to the hypertech web site. There they have dyno results for stock and their "modifications" so you can compare...

Here's what they say about my truck:

It appears that the torque plateaus at about 2,000 RPM, but when I'm on the highway I try to keep my RPM under that. I'm usually at 1700 - 1800 with the cruise at 60.

Peak torque is great for yanking a stuck truck out of the mud or accelerating a motorhome, but for cruising peak torque doesn't matter. I try to keep my RPM as low as possible when cruising and it works for me.

Thanks. My 7.4 Vortec is also at 2,000. Good to finally know.
