When I came across this article, I just had to post about it here. Apparently, the problem of thermal expansion of gas due to outdoor environmental temperatures IS significant.

I won't argue there's not a measurable difference winter<>summer but at 3ft underground 5* in a WEEK is a large temperature swing.

According to this article, the change in volume is about 1.7% between 60 and 90 degrees F.

So during a fill up at 4 dollars a gallon, that's roughly 7 cents a gallon.

Hm. Kind of like Office Space, making "bank" from a penny a transaction.
