Big Red has first 30+mpg tank!

Well I never knew how much "adjusting the nut behind the wheel" could impact your gas mileage but if you look at my gas log from before I knew about hypermileing techniques I was no sloucher but when I first started I never thought I would hit 30+mpg.

Maybe 26 with driving technique and 28 with aero mods and striped down but not 30 mpg with just changing driving habits.

Too bad it doesn't look like she will last long enough to meet her other goals.

After hitting a tank 58% over EPA mixed driving estimates to think if everyone just hit 15% - 20% over how much more gas and less polution there would be.

And less accidents.

Congrats! I think it's possible to hit 50% over EPA in almost any vehicle on the road, more than that in many, 100% with better geared transmissions & driving habits.

Congratulations!

I don't think the symptom you describe in your gaslog should be a death sentence for the car, but that Cobalt XFE ought to be a decent car if you get it.

After taking a look under the hood and being able to duplicate it, it seems to be an electrical issue.

Did notice the battery was pretty low but I think that was just from all the failed start attempts, had it on a charged for most of the day.
We will see what happens.

30+ mpg in a boat like an LHS is simply amazing. Good work, and I hope you get her up and running soon!

nice job!

i was able to exceed 30 mpg only once with my Olds 88(similar size and weight). my 90 day avg before selling it was 28+. with a fair amount of city driving, it was very difficult.

the guy i sold it to, intended to drive exclusively in the city. i imagine his mpg is in the 15-18 range.

make sure you don't have a cheap repair before getting rid of that chrysler. you might even fix, then sell it, if you really want something else.

cars.com offers a money back guarantee if you do not sell. also, do you really want to finance a new vehicle?

I exceed 30 average any time the highway percent goes above 60% in my Delta 88. I think Big Red can do it too. Too bad it sounds like you don't do mechanic well. There aren't very many sensors on that engine and there's only a few specific things that cause no start.

Big Red looks a lot like my Eagle Vision. Good job at 30 mpg. I could never get more than 22 or 23 in my car. Funny though, I had the same problem with the heat going full blast no matter what you do in my car also. Had to get a new climate control thingy.

Well I made a 60 mile round trip yesterday uneventfully but on my way to work today it stalled, only took about 90 seconds to get it re-started and my drive home was fine.

Seems like it is stalling right when it gets to it's normal operating temp and when I'm at low throttle or a glide. Have stoped EOC since I'm scared it just won't start afterwords and I've lost about 0.8 mpg.

I wouldn't have to finance the car as I have the cash for a new car but I'd still like to get the most out of what I already have.

With the climate controle thing I even riped out the controler and it keeps going. Least it's bearable with the fuse for the climate fan pulled.

My driving is 10% City, 70% backroads with 40-55mph limits, 20% highway and almost never in rush hour.
