I am in Japan and thinking of buying a fuel efficient car, what should I buy!!!

With rising gas prices my Honda Torneo SiR isn't cutting it anymore, it meets all of our needs with exception of the fuel efficiency.

We love many things on it like the traction control, stability assist and it is spacious enough for a family of three but the poor gas mileage in this Honda is frustrating to me.

Basically if you were in Japan what would you buy?

If I were in japan, I'd get a kei car. I'm sure you could get something cool looking like a suzuki swift gt or something, and still get rediculous MPG, and also race the crap out of it.

Look at my gas log.

I'd get a manual Vitz (1 liter) with the optional engine shut off feature. They are no longer made though and are extremely rare.

I really want a prius. The Vitz is a nice choice too. Also the Fit is cool too. The problem is that I payed $2,200.00 for my car and even with the stupid high gas prices I just cannot justify paying so much for a newer car.

On a side note I have been using the bicycle and train more often which has helped off set the rising gas prices a little bit. But the train is 150 yen one-way or 300 yen round trip so it is like $3.00 for a 10 mile round trip. I think that the trip too and from work only uses at most .5 gallons or around $2.05 of gas which is still cheaper than the train and a bit faster.

I guess that I am lucky to have all of these choices.
