any vx owners tryed E85?

well i decided to top off my tank after going 160 miles. one of the local bp stations now have E85 so i decided to try it out! i shoved in almost 4 gallons! so about a 60/40 mix. i did not want to run strait e85 but has any other vx owners tryed this? regular 87 was 4.09$ and E85 was 3.30$

Sorry, but this is a very bad idea. A stoich mixture on e85 is around 10-1 air fuel. You'll be dangerously lean when your car is in lean burn mode. I don't really know how to advise you to fix the situation.

You better drain the tank. There's a drain bolt on it.

E85 requires a lot more fuel to be sprayed. The OEM computer isn't going to get it right. To run E85 you need to re-tune the calibration and you most likely will have to get bigger injectors.

Also note that your mpg will be much lower so you wont go as far on the VX's smaller tank.

What I think you should do is fill it with regular gas as soon as soon as your gague gets to 3/4 of a tank. Do that a couple of times. You will eventually get back to regular gas. I don't think you should run e-85 unless you have an e-85 compliant vehicle. But you didn't put a full tank of it in there so you should be ok. You would only be running more ethanol than you should for 100or 200 miles or so. You still have mostly gas in the tank.

Keep in mind that the O2 sensor reads residual oxygen after the combustion process, it could care less what the stoichiometry of the fuel is. In the end you still get the afr appropriate for the fuel being used. However, open loop is a different situation, fueling will be lean. Since E85 has a much higher octane rating than regular gasoline, I don't think detonation is anything to worry about. Combustion temps will be higher with the leaner mixture, but with the low cylinder pressures at work in the VX engine, it would probably not be an issue for a tank or two.

well i know this experiment did not go over well with some of you. but i just hit half a tank and have had zero problems it drives exactly the same. no detonation and i am getting 44mpg so my mpg has not changed one bit. i am going to run it to empty and refill it with just 87 regular gasoline. like a said i would not run strait e85 but a 60/40 min did not hurt anything

I've run 2 gallons and 3 gallons of E85 in my VX on two consecutive occasions. The tank was filled the rest of the way with 87 octane. I didn't have any driveability issues, but I did suffer a 2-4mpg decrease for those two tanks. I mainly did this as a fuel system cleaning since, at the time, E85 was cheaper then any of the fuel system cleaners that were out there.

I would not recommend running E85 in high concentrations for long periods of time (over 1 or 2 tanks) due to it's destructive nature towards the type of rubber that is in our fuel lines in the older Hondas.

E40(very rough estimate) seems ok for your VX. you could be on to something.
